Journey towards the Lao border, west along Highway 6 past Hoa Binh and Moc Chau. Overnight in Son La.



Day 2             Son La-Dien Bien Phu  


After breakfast at your hotel, By vehicle from Son La to Dien Bien Phu
Journey west through Ban Vay and Tuan Giao.

TUAN GIAO: a remote town at the junction of Highway 42 to Dien Bien Phu and Highway 6A to Lai Chau.

PHA DIN PASS: located in Lai Chau Province (985 m above sea level), this area is mainly inhabited by white and black Thai and Hmoung (Meo).Sightseeing Dien Bien Phu
Dien Bien Phu was the site of the battle which defeated the French and ended their colonial control of Indochina. It is one of the most remote parts of Vietnam in the Muong Thanh Valley and is surrounded by steep heavily forested hills.

DBP MUSEUM: The site of the battle is now marked by this museum.

BUNKER OF DE CASTRIES: the headquarters of this French commander have been re-created, with old French tanks and artillery pieces nearby.

MINORITIES: the whole area is inhabited by Montagnard people, which include the white and black Thai, Hmong, Zao and Muong.

Day 3              Dien Bien Phu - Phong Tho

Day 4              Sa Pa - Dien Bien Phu

Small town nestled in a beautiful valley carved from spectacular mountains by the Da River. Valuable cash crops

and tourism help the locals make a living.

MINORITIES: several hill tribes can be seen in this area.

Day 5           Lai Chau - Sa Pa


Break fast then process vehicle from Lai Chau to Sa Pa

Mountainous journey in Lai Chau Province past Ban Cheng Nuo and Phong Tho.

Overnight in Sa Pa.



Day 6              Sa Pa

                        Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel and start your day by sightseeing in Sa Pa Sightseeing in Sa Pa

Sa Pa is a hill station built in 1922 which lies in a beautiful valley with Fansipan Mountain overlooking the valley. Sapa has both Hmong and Dzao people, the largest and most colorful ethnic groups in the region.
MARKET: Montagnards from surrounding villages don their most colorful costumes and head to the market on Saturday.
THAC BAC WATERFALL: a 100 meter high waterfall, particularly impressive during the rainy season.
TRAM TON PASS: a pass on the north side of Fansipan. At 1900 meters, this is the highest mountain pass in Vietnam. Aside from the magnificent views, it is know for its sudden, dramatic shifts in climate, from fog to sunshine.Hiking excursion to visit the ethnic minorities of the Sa Pa area
Explore villages of various hill tribes around Sa Pa. Overnight in Sa Pa.

Day 7              Sa Pa 

                        By vehicle from Sa Pa to Hanoi
Journey southeast along minor roads past Van Ban and Viet Tri.
