The provincial capital is 551 kilometers north of Bangkok. The province is noteworthy for several temples, including Phra That Cho Hae with its golden chedi, Wat Phra That, which houses a Buddha relic, Wat Luang and Wat Phra Non. The Phae Muang Phi Forest Park some 18 kilometers from the provincial capital, features earthen pillars created from wind and soil erosion. Ban Na Thum, Ban Hua Thung and Ban Na Mon produce distinctive Tin Ckok woven cloth. The Mae Yom National Park and Wang Ko Sai National Park offer nature lovers different aspects of northern Thai topography, including teak forests, waterfalls and hot water springs.
